Mixers join two streams.  If the two streams differ markedly in temperature, the mixer may function as an open heat-exchanger.  Power plants often employ open heat exchangers as a means for deaerating the working fluid.  If the two streams differ significantly in pressure, the mixer may function as a jet-ejector, a pump in which the high pressure stream entrains and compresses the low-pressure stream.  Such pumps may be used in air conditioning applications, in which they are "driven" by a cheap fuel source, such as natural gas.

Possible modeling assumptions for mixers: none
