A subcycle consists of all those parts of your design to which a particular piece of working fluid could travel.  Most designs will have only one subcycle.  However, a heat exchangerHeat_Exchanger can connect two otherwise separate cycles, as in the combined cycle2MT8OSR in the Library.  In this situation the stuff in subcycle A will never mix with the stuff in subcycle B; in fact, the stuff in A is air whereas the stuff in B is water.  Note that, while it is necessary to use a heat-exchanger to create a cycle with more than one subcycle, one can use a heat-exchanger in a system that has only one subcycle, for example in a Rankine cycle with regeneration.  CyclePad will always label subcycles with letters (A, B, C, etc) if there is more than one, and you can open meters displaying the properties of each subycle from the Global Properties menu.
